Central Otago ranges
The Remarkables are striking mountains to the east of Lake Wakatipu, rising to Double Cone (2340m) and Ben Nevis. There is good rockclimbing around Double Cone, above the Remarkables ski field.
East of the Remarkables are the Garvie Mountains, and to the northeast the Pisa, Dunstan, St Bathans, Hawkdun and St Mary Ranges, which rarely exceed 2000m. West of Dunedin are the Rock and Pillar range and the Kakanui Range. All these ranges provide excellent ski touring terrain.
