Planning for next summers NZAC National Instruction Programme is already underway with an expanded schedule of courses on offer for Club members. The courses are run by NZMGA qualified guides at a ratio of 1:4 and are incredibly good value. They are for those members who have been through the Clubs basic instruction programme or the equivalent, and want to 'up' their skills to become more self-sufficient in the mountains.

Progress is being made around the rock fall issues in many of our Reserves. The work involves aerial surveying, ground mapping and then appropriate mitigation- rock rolling, blasting, bolting and netting. It's a big job and very time consuming.

We realise of all the recreational activities on the port hills that rock climbers are the group that have lost the most rec opportunity.

20 April 2011 - 7:08am

Thanks to the efforts of volunteer, Julie Provan, and after several donations of books from members, we have restarted our sorting of the NZAC Reference Library. Some books (thanks to a special donation by Dave Bamford) will be heading down to the Unwin Lodge Library when renovations there are complete and others, surplus to both libraries, have become available for sale.
