East of the Himalaya: The Alps of Tibet and Beyond

On Friday May20th famous Japanese climber and explorer Tamotsu Nakamura will bein Christchurch to speak on his celebratedjourneys into the mountains of East and South East Tibet and WesternChina. Nakamura is widely regarded as the world’s expert on whatis essentially the last great unclimbed mountain region left today.

Over thelast 20 years Nakamura has made more 30 exploratory journeys to map andphotograph the “Alps of Tibet” and has travelled the world giving lectures onhis discoveries. He has helped many climbers (including Kiwi’s) find unclimbedpeaks for their expeditions and says there remain vast opportunities for trueexploration and virgin climbing amongst the mountains of Western China / Eastern Tibet for those willing to leave the beatentrack.

Nakamura isa Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
