Hut projects

Alpine huts must withstand an extremely harsh environment, and so the Club has a regular programme of maintenance and improvements. Ideas for new huts are also always being considered. If you have suggestions, please contact the Accomodation Manager through the National Office.

Current projects

Ruapehu Hut

A new toilet system needs to be installed over summer ready for the winter season next year. The hut will be closed from 7 November 2012 until the project is complete. Volunteers are beig sought for working bees in the last summer and autumn of 2013.

Destroyed by an avalanche in 1996, this hut was extremely popular for climbers visiting Mt Malte Burn and the surrounding area. There has been a large amount of interest in rebuilding this asset in a safer location near by.
