National Instruction Courses for next summer

Planning for next summers NZAC National Instruction Programme is already underway with an expanded schedule of courses on offer for Club members. The courses are run by NZMGA qualified guides at a ratio of 1:4 and are incredibly good value. They are for those members who have been through the Clubs basic instruction programme or the equivalent, and want to 'up' their skills to become more self-sufficient in the mountains.
Advanced High Alpine Skills Course
This course is for those who have taken part in the High Alpine Skills Course, have excellent fitness and have been putting their skills into practice on grade 2 alpine routes. It will be based at Plateau Hut (fly in, walk out) and the focus will be on students making ascents of routes chosen by the guide, and with them in a supervisory role. There will be a fairly strict selection process for this course.
Dates: 20th-25th November 2011.
Mountain Skills for Women
This course will take place at Mt Cook and is for women with basic skills and a high level of fitness who want to take their skills to the next level. It will be a 'roving' course using a combination of huts and bivvying and wil be instructed by qualified NZMGA women guides. Participants will be required to carry a heavy pack.

High Alpine Skills Course
Hugely popular the last two summers, this course is for those with good basic skills and excellent fitness who are serious about improving their mountaineering. Its is a 'roving'course combining huts and bivying and will be run at the head of the Tasman or Mueller Glacier. The course will fly in and walk out, so participants must be prepared to carry a heavy pack. There will be three HASC's.
Dates: 19th-24th December 2011; 1st -6th January 2012; 8th-13th January 2012
Introduction to Multi-pitch Alpine Rockclimbing

Experienced rock climbers with a knowledge of placing natural protection and who want to take on mountain routes- this is for you! The course will be run by NZMGA guide and icon Nick Craddock, one of the most experienced alpine rock climbers in the country. The venue is yet to be decided but will likely be the Darrans' or Twin Streams. There will be a strict selection programme for this course.
Dates: 10th -15th March 2012.
