Arthur’s Pass and North Canterbury Track Updates -DOC 23 April 2018

Kia ora,
Please find, via the following link, the track updates for Arthur’s Pass and Craigieburn and also note the following closures/changes in North Canterbury. Please forward this to anyone else you think may be interested. Arthurs Pass National Park Alerts
Foothill Forests
Mt Thomas / Wooded Gully will be closed from 30 April – 11 June 2018 for forestry harvesting by Rayonier/Matariki Forests. As there will be tree felling and heavy machinery operating close to the walking tracks and access to the picnic and camping grounds, public access to this area will be closed during this period.
Mt Grey picnic and camping area access restricted to high clearance 4WD vehicles. Following heavy rain earlier this year, the culvert across the stream remains damaged and is only negotiable for 4WD vehicles. We recommend you park before the stream and walk across if the river flow is low.
St James Conservation Area
4WD access on the Edwards and Maling Pass tracks will be closed for the winter season on Monday 30 April. Weather and track conditions permitting, the tracks are expected to open again in October 2018.
Arthur’s Pass National Park
Punchbowl Falls Track will be closed from Monday 30 May for up to four weeks while repairs are being made to the track.
Lake Pearson
The camping and picnic site at Lake Pearson remains closed to all public access while earthworks and roading work is underway. Expect this to be completed and open by 4 May 2018.
