Hunua Ranges Regional Park Goat Control Programme 2015
Auckland City Council – Animal Pest Control Operation
We wish to advise you that between the 16th of March 2015 and 19th of June 2015 Auckland Council will be carrying out feral goat control in the Hunua Ranges Regional Park. The control is part of an annual programme to reduce goat numbers and protect the high conservation value of the park. The programme is proving to be successful but requires an ongoing commitment to maintain low goat numbers within the Regional Park
Control will be carried out by contracted professional hunters using dogs and rifles. Helicopters will not be used as part of this operation.
The park has been divided into 2 hunting areas (see attached map) which will be closed to the public weekdays whilst control occurs. Signs will be placed at track entry points including car parks and arrival zones to inform visitors of the animal pest control operation and any closures.
Please note all campgrounds will be closed Sunday night to Friday night inclusive. Campgrounds are closed so that there is no public access through the hunting areas whilst they are operative.
Control work will not be carried out on weekends or public holidays and the park will be open as normal during these times.
Please see the attachment below, with schedule and map, for a complete list of area, track and campground closures.
For enquiries regarding recreational activities during this operation, please contact The Auckland Council Call Centre on 09 3010101, and ask for the Southern Regional Parks office.
