NZAC Hut Challenge Winners
The 16th Annual NZ Mountain Film Festival hosted the New Zealand Alpine Club at their Festival Trade Show in Wanaka last weekend. As a part of the NZAC stall we ran the NZAC Hut Challenge. Many NZAC members and members of the public had a go at naming the 16 NZAC huts based on select images. Margaret, our National Administrator, chose the images to ensure a challenge as the images were mostly either taken from odd angles and from a mix of past and recent times. Two winners were drawn from a pool of entries that correctly identified all the huts and another pool from all the entries.
NZAC veteran, Ron Smoothy, proved himself as the champion NZAC hut identifier as he was the only entry to correctly match all 16 hut names to the images! Ron has won himself a voucher to stay at the NZAC Unwin Lodge. Many other participants proved a worthy challenge to Ron, but most narrowly missed out by getting one or two incorrect. Dave Cassidy was the lucky winner drawn randomly from the entry pool. He also wins a voucher to stay at NZAC Unwin Lodge. Congratulations Ron and Dave.
The weekend was a great opportunity for the club to increase our profile amongst the NZ mountain lovers. If you missed out on the Wanaka event, you still have a chance to catch the NZ Mountain Film Festival at the Queenstown Memorial Centre from 5th July till 7th July.
Thanks to the NZ Mountain Film Festival for running such a wonderful event that showcases the Kiwi love of mountains, the New Zealand landscape and our sense of adventure. We look forward to next year!
