Ladies Traditional Lead Climbing Course (Rock Three)


For NZAC Members only.

Maximum of 8 Students. 

Saturday 20th and Sunday 31st January 2016. 

A course just for the Ladies and run by qualified volunteer female instructors and designed for those who have lead on bolts( sport climbed ) outside and wish to progress to traditional( trad ) lead climbing ( placing gear on lead ). You may also be a beginner trad leader or perhaps someone who hasn't done much climbing in recent times and is looking for a refresher.

This course is not suitable for beginners and at a minimum requirement you must have lead climbed on bolts, know how to belay a lead climber and abseil as these will not be taught on the course - NO EXCEPTIONS.

This course will be based on the Port Hills in Christchurch for the two days and cost $150.

The course will cover the following only:

  • Traditional gear and its use
  • Technique
  • Placing gear while on lead
  • Traditional lead climbing
  • Construction of traditional anchors
  • Transition at the anchor station
Course equipment required as follows: 
  • Harness. 
  • Rock Shoes.
  • Prussik's x three (one short, medium and long). 
  • Climbing helmet (not a kayak or bike helmet). 
  • Belay device and HMS or Pear shaped screwgate carabiner. 
  • Safety chain / daisy chain and second screwgate carabiner. 

You must have at a minimum, your own harness, rock shoes and prussik's (Bivouac Tower Junction can help you with these and the sizes required). The Canterbury / Westland section can provide all other equipment on the list but this is in limited supply and available on a first come basis so you may have to source your own equipment if we don't have enough to go around.

A registration form, full gear list and the bank account details to pay the course fee will then be emailed out and if not a current NZAC member when first applying, you must be a fully paid up member when returning the registration form - NO EXCEPTIONS.

As mentioned, there is a maximum of 8 students only although so we do not have a cut off date these courses usually full at least two weeks before the start date so don't miss out !
