A great follow up course for those who have already done a beginners navigation course with the C/W Section or have a basic knowledge of map and compass skills, pacing and terrain selection.
We will meet at Zeroes CafÃ© on the corner of Cashmere and Valley road at 8am for a takeaway coffee and carpooling if required (please bring some cash to give to your drivers for fuel reimbursement) or at 9am at the entrance of Orton Bradley Park in Charteris Bay.
We will head up the track to Mt Herbert and spend the day working along to Mt Fitzgerald with the skills you already know or revising and building on what you learnt on the beginners course.
The bulk of the day will be spent moving from point to point using your skills you have previously been taught and a reasonable level of fitness is required and you will need to have the usual tramping equipment if on a day walk â good sturdy tramping boots, a reasonable size day pack and pack liner, warm clothing â top and bottom layers, fleece or down jacket, warm hat and gloves, rain coat and over trousers, sun hat, sunscreen and sunglasses, personal medication and toilet paper, small note book and pencil or pen, compass and map of the area (can be provided if requested), lunch, snack and energy food, a minimum of 1.5 litres of water and a thermos for hot drinks is optional and a spare set of clothes and shoes for the return home.
We will be returning to Orton Bradley for 5pm.
The course will go ahead in all but the worse weather.
This course is open to both members and non members at a cost of $25 for members and $40 for non members and is limited to 8 students only so donât miss out!
