Canterbury/Westland Section - Sport Lead Climbing Course (Rock Two)
Saturday November 25th ( back up for weather Sunday 26th ).
A course designed for those making the transition from indoor or outdoor top rope climbing, looking to learn how to lead on bolts.
This course IS NOT a complete beginners rock climbing course. Lead belaying (not with a gri gri) would be an advantage but some lead belaying will also be taught or refreshed for those needing it.
This will be a full day course on the Port Hills of Christchurch under the tuition of qualified volunteer instructors and a cost of $50 for current NZAC members only, aged 16 upwards.
The course will cover the following only:
Balance and movement on rock.
Sport lead climbing.
Setting up sport anchors.
Transition at the anchor station.
Course equipment required as follows:
Harness ( please provide yourself ).
Rock shoes ( please provide yourself ).
Prussic â 1.25m total untied length, 6mm and small locking biner ( please provide ).
Climbing helmet ( not a kayak or bike helmet ).
Belay device (not a gri gri) and screw gate carabiner (HMS or Pear Shaped).
Safety chain or anchor chain and extra screw gate carabiner.
You must have at a minimum, your own harness, rock shoes and prussic and small locking carabiner with the C/W section able to provide all other equipment on the list if requested but this is in limited supply and on a first come basis so we encourage you all to source as much equipment as possible.
Upon your first contact please provide your full name , address, NZAC members details and phone number and a brief bio on your climbing ability. A registration form, gear list and bank details for payment will then be sent if there are still spaces available (there is a maximum of 8 spots only for this course).
You must also be available for the back up day in case weather postpones the original day and a full refund will only be given if you have to withdraw, if we are able to find a replacement in time for your spot.
