NZAC Aoraki – Tai Poutini Guidebook Launch
NZAC Aoraki - Tai Poutini: a guide for mountaineers Guidebook Launch
We are pleased to announce the upcoming release of NZAC's guidebook Aoraki - Tai Poutini: a guide for mountaineers.
The mountains and glaciers of Westland Tai Poutini National Park and Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park together make up New Zealand's most popular alpine climbing region. This guidebook describes virtually every climbing route and access route in both parks. All new routes since the 2001 edition have been added, and the Cook / Weheka, Copland, Douglas, and Karangarua valleys are covered for the first time. Specific attention is given to how routes have been affected by climate change, and how they could be affected by glacier recession in the future. These two important national parks provide mountaineers with a diverse range of possibilities due to their unique variety of terrain, accessibility, and microclimates. Technical climbers, general mountaineers, and transalpine trampers will find no shortage of mountain adventures here. Keen tahr and chamois hunters will also find the information on range crossings and access to the tops invaluable.
The book will be available for purchase for the NZAC Online Shop and in all good bookstores from Wednesday, 7th November 2018 (retail $70.00; member price through NZAC $50.00).
In the meantime, please put one of the following launch dates in your calendar, to join NZAC in celebrating the release of the guidebook. We've got a great line up of speakers, and author Rob Frost will say a few words about writing the guide, the new grading system, and would love to answer some questions. The guidebook will be for sale at the member price at all launch events, for members and non-members alike.
