CW & SO Section - Dunedin Climbing Meet

The Canterbury / Westland Section's popular climbing meet, co-organised with the Southland Section of the NZAC.

We will be based at the Long Beach Community Hall where we can use all the inside facilities  - kitchen, dining are and toilets (there are no showers - take a dip in the ocean!) and you must provide your own tent to camp outside.  There is also a BBQ for those that wish to use it - please bring your own food.

The cost is $30.00 ($15 per night) to be paid 5 days before attending.

You don't have to be an NZAC member to attend but the same guidelines apply to everyone and this is NOT suitable for absolute beginners.

  • Wear a helmet at all times with climbing and belaying.
  • If abseiling, use a prusik as a back up and tie a knot in the end of the rope.
  • Use good clear commands and communication (persons name) between the climber and belayer.

In Dunedin, there are multiple places to climb with sport and trad grades from 12 upwards as well as bouldering so something for everyone and we can point you in the right direction depending on your ability and into groups of like-minded people if you don't have a climbing partner.

For those that can get extra time off, some will be travelling down early on the Friday to get the 6hr drive out of the way and to allow for extra climbing in the afternoon. Please let the organisers know if this is an option.

Anyone attending from the Southland Section, please contact Peter O'Neill.

For Canterbury / Westland Section attendees, please contact Clayton Garbes with your plans for the weekend - leaving time, ride share required, can provide a car and how many passengers, climbing plans for the weekend etc.  As much info in as few emails as possible would be appreciated!
