Sustainable Summits 2018
Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France – 12-14 June 2018
Following on from three previous conferences, in 2010 and 2014 in the United States and at Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park in 2016, France will host this year’s Sustainable Summits conference.
The conference will continue the aims of sharing knowledge and experience and proposing practical solutions for the future of our high mountains. Details are on the Sustainable Summits website (https://www.sustainable-summits2018.org/sutainable-summits-conference-en ).
The previous Sustainable Summits Conference , hosted by the NZAC, had a full turnout (120 attendees) for the three-days. The themes of that summit were environmental impacts , natural hazards and social impacts/cultural values. A record is at http://sustainablesummits.org/blog-talks-posters/2016-conference/
This year’s three-day conference will host a maximum of 250 attendees, including land managers; researchers; representatives from NGOs, non-profit organisations and outdoor companies; and guides and mountaineers from around the world. The venue is the Majestic Conference Centre in downtown Chamonix. Early-bird conference registration fees of €190 are available until 15 March and the registration fee for under 29-year olds is €70.
This year’s summit has two New Zealand presentations one by Tuwharetoa leader Te Ngaehe Wanikau and DOC’s Regional Director, Allan Munn, and one by past NZAC president Dave Bamford.
