Home of Mountaineering Official Opening by Sir Edmund Hillary

Back to National Office Back to NZAC Heritage

The New Zealand Alpine Club celebrated the opening of its new ‘Home of Mountaineering’ on Sunday 5th August 2006, at Unit 6, 6 Raycroft St, Christchurch. This exciting project took three years of planning and fundraising with the finished result now a real asset to the climbing community.

Sir Edmund and Lady June Hillary were the Honoured Guests at the opening morning, where Sir Ed unveiled a special plaque and celebrated with over 150 other Club members, their friends, and family with a morning tea. Visitors then checked out the new library and research room on the top floor, as well the other new office areas of the Club’s National Office.
