Taking advantage of more than two days of fine weather in a row, Nina and I headed up the Paringa River in South Westland and over to Marks Flat by way of McCullaugh Pass and a nice high level traverse above bushline via Murdoch Creek. It was great to see Tunnel Creek Hut looking in fantastic condition thanks to some stellar work by Geoff Spearpoint and company.

We spent a day tent-bound on route in McCullaugh Creek while a front moved through, before traversing around to Murdock Creek. Amthooker stiff south-easterly on the day we climbed Mt Hooker yielded excellent conditions and vistas, with a stunning display of easterly clag rolling over the main divide all morning. A lovely afternoon and evening was then spent relaxing at the simply delightful Marks Flat, going for a dip in the Clarke and generally lazing about in the sun. Incredibly, a 3rd day of fine weather dawned, so we set off and climbed onto the Solution Range before dropping down to the Otoko Glacier lake and on through to the flats at the head of the Otoko. Over the course of the next two days we wandered down the beautiful Otoko to more or less crappy weather, concluding a most enjoyable trip through some stupendous country.
