NZAC Photocomp 2022 - Alpine Landscape

Judging is now complete on this year's NZAC Photo Competition. Keep your eyes on this site over the rest of the week as we announce the winner of each category, with the overall winner to be announced at the end of the week.

The winner of the Alpine Landscape category for this year is the image shown above, by Derek Cheng. He captions it: Sunset bathes the Dru, the Verte, and the Charpoua Valley in fiery red.

'The winning image in the Alpine Landscape category is an exercise in restraint and compositional balance: A dash of light and clever framing turn this image into a classic landscape photography masterpiece. What appears to be a simple image at first glance slowly draws the viewer into the frame, revealing its layers of subtle complexity in the process. ' Judge Dennis Radermacher.

Derek wins a $500 RAB voucher from Outfitters.

There were six honours images awarded also, they are shown below. Congratulations to Eric Liu, Ian Brown, Rasmus Altenkamp and Geoff Marks who were awarded for images in this category. They win prizes from Black Diamond, Further Faster and Potton & Burton. These images may appear in the NZAC Calendar 2023, so keep a look out for that when it becomes available before Christmas. Thanks again to the photo competition judges Simon WaterhouseMark Watson and Dennis Radermacher.
