Welcome to climbing in the Paparoa, including the ‘world famous’ Bullock Creek and the Punakaiki River Valley. This isn’t your typical sport climbing destination, but it has something for everyone.
The South Island’s West Coast limestone has been something of a late-bloomer in terms of crag development. Paradise Crag, developed in the summer of 2014/2015 by Neil Silverwood and Neil Warrington, is perhaps the best and most user-friendly crag in the valley.
Any climber traveling the impossibly beautiful stretch of coast between Punakaiki and Charleston on a fine day can’t help but notice the huge vertical bands of grey and yellow limestone that line the valleys stretching up into Paparoa National Park. Over 100 climbs, many of them multi-pitch, await you.
