Tūpiki Equity Scholarship - Wānaka Crag Fest
The Tūpiki Equity Scholarship is intended to support climbers who need assistance to access the sport of climbing (think of it like a stick clip to the first bolt). We value diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in our climbing community and we want to ensure we provide a welcoming and safe climbing space for everyone.
For 2024, the Tūpiki Equity Scholarship is to support attendance at the Wānaka Crag Fest (March 15-17). This festival aims to build the climbing community, while also promoting equity and sustainability within it. For the first year of Wānaka Crag Fest, all participants must be 18 years or older, and subsequently the Scholarship will have the same age limit. We hope to remove the age limit in the coming years.
To apply for the scholarship, please fill out the form below (or here if using a mobile) and submit it as soon as you can – we will be considering applications as they come in. The form will ask you to provide some personal information, such as your name, age, gender identity, ethnicity and income level. We will use this information to evaluate your eligibility and need for the scholarship, as well as to monitor and improve our DEI efforts. We will not share your personal information with anyone outside of the scholarship committee.
The form will also ask you to write a short explanation (300 words max) about why you want to participate in the festival and how it will benefit your climbing journey. We want to hear about your passion for climbing, your goals and aspirations, and your challenges and achievements. We also want to know how you contribute or plan to contribute to making the climbing community more diverse, equitable and inclusive.
Scholarships will be awarded on a case-by-case basis. They will cover the festival registration and can be used to go towards other costs associated with attending the festival (NZAC membership, travel, gear, accommodation etc). For each participant, this will be different, so please outline in the application form what you need to be able to attend, and whether partial funding would assist or it needs to be the full amount applied for. We accept requests up to $800.
The scholarships will be assessed once a week as they are received. You can expect to hear back from us no more than 10 working days after your submission. Note that confirmation of a scholarship does not guarantee you a ticket to the festival or clinic(s) you may have requested, so participants should book their tickets as soon as possible.
If you have any questions or concerns about the application process, please contact us at [email protected] or [email protected]
We look forward to receiving your application and seeing you at the festival!
