Darran Mountains Rock Book Published
The Darran Mountains are home to New Zealand's best rock climbing. This range of steep peaks features the full spectrum of rock climbing from single-pitch sport climbing through to multi-pitch alpine rock with traditional protection. The scale of the climbing on offer, combined with the quality of the rock, steep terrain and breathtaking scenery combine for a world class rock climbing experience beyond anything else on our fair shores.
NZAC's previous guidebook to the area dates back to 2006 and has been long out of print. There has been a lot of route development since then and our new guidebook to the area concentrates on these areas of recent development. This new and revised edition includes the best rock climbing readily-accessible from the Milford Road. This includes cragging in the Cleddau Valley, nautical adventures at Copper Point, the massive cliffs of The Airport Wall and Sinbad Gully, as well as alpine multi-pitch climbing on Moir's Mate, Barrier Knob and in the Adelaide Cirque.

The climbing further away from the road and more adventurous than the classic North Buttress of Sabre Peak will be included in a future adventure climbing volume, but this guide already packs in more climbing than there are good weather days in Fiordland, with over 350 routes spread across 35 crags. See the sample spread below for an idea of how this book presents the routes.

The new guide is available for sale at a member price opf $42.50 in our webshop here. Keep an eye out for book launch events coming soon.
